If I really believed Kung Fu San Soo was a real fighting style that would be effective and efficient to use in a street fight I WOULD NOT waste my time putting this blog together! Do I believe that people have used Kung Fu San Soo in situations to defend themselves in the past? Yeah.
There is a video on youtube with the description of a U.S. Army Special Forces guy use an eye poke on a Peruvian Special Forces guy. In the description of the video, the U.S. Army man is a Kung Fu San Soo practitioner while the Peruvian is a Karate guy. The fight doesn't last longer than 3 seconds and the Peruvian guy immediately covers his eyes and the fight ends as soon as his eyes are jabbed.
Does this situation mean KFSS is a fighting art? In my opinion, no. This technique can be done by anyone of any age. How many times do little kids accidentally get poked in the eye by another kid when goofing around? Lots. How many people are capable of putting their fingers together to form a spear and jab another person in the eyes? Lots (it's not hard to put your fingers together and doesn't require great force). How many professional combat athletes are capable of eye pokes? Just ask Chuck Liddell!
Is this tactic beneficial to know? Absolutely, but it's nothing special and shouldn't/doesn't require someone to spend years to learn to get a black belt in (also, certainly a lot of money). Most importantly, anyone of any martial art or anyone who hasn't studied martial arts can perform this technique. Just because KFSS advocates them to use doesn't mean KFSS has set itself apart as a fighting style.
