I've already wrote a blog post about san soo being in UFC 2. Again here it is,
It (KUNG FU SAN SOO) was represented at UFC 2 by Thaddeus Luster, who supposedly had a seventh-degree black belt in the art. His opponent was Dutch sambo practitioner and pornography theater owner Freek Hamaker (although sources online list his name as "Frank," it is listed as "Freek" in the pay-per-view, so who knows).
To Luster's credit, he did actually managed to take Hamaker down with a hair-pull trip but the position was reversed immediately and Luster eventually lost via submission.
San Soo was never represented in the Octagon again. Fortunately for the martial art, its poor showing has essentially been erased from existence; this fight is another that is among the several "lost fights" that weren't part of the UFC 2 pay-per-view or DVD. Thus, it may be lost to the ages.
Again, I've already mentioned this event happening and it's one of several challenge fights that san soo guys have lost (I can't think of any times they won). Anyway, I have been told that Thaddeus Luster was trained and taught san soo by master Larry Wikel in Culver City (this was after the Culver City Arena Event in 1975). UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE!!!!
If that's true (I believe it is true) that is something that should be made into a bad comedy movie. Kung Fu San Soo Master doesn't learn from his mistakes (getting 5 students beaten) and gets another person fucked up again (but this time in the UFC)!
Readers of the blog: the event in 1975 truly shows the lack of technique, tactics, and value taught in san soo. UFC only sealed the deal as far as I'm concerned. REMEMBER! THERE WERE HARDLY ANY RULES IN UFC 2! DOESN'T THE SAN SOO COMMUNITY STATE THAT SAN SOO WORKS WHEN THERE AREN'T ANY RULES?
*To the person who gave me the info about where Thaddeus trained. Thank you.

I GUESS LARRY A ND THADDEUS WERE GOING TO ATONE FOR THE. 1975. BEATDOWN OF LARRYS GUYS. IF YOU KEEP DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER YOU GOTTA TRY SOMETHONG NEW.
ReplyDeleteThe one step. SPARRING stuff just does not do it. SAN SOO IS NOT AN ELITE FIGHTING ART.
ReplyDeleteBefore Luster went into the 2nd UFC Andre Salvage, a san soo Master originally trained by Larry Wikel to Brownfield told me personally that he told LUSTER not to fight and that the San soo people did not want him to fight. It I S obvious to me that they did not want a repeat of the Larry Wikel 5 loss CULVET CITY ARENA beatdowns.
ReplyDeleteANDRE was trained to brownfield by Larry. Then went to Chuck Cory when Larry left town
ReplyDeleteI believe he eventually got one of th o st huge Masters certificate from JIMMY himself.
