Hello Everyone,

I discuss Muay Thai and the similar striking styles a lot on this blog, because I feel they're so effective and efficient.  Now, I've already written a post about Western Boxing being a real fighting style, but I want to write a post about a website that I feel is worth visiting.

Expertboxing.com

In my opinion, this is the best website in the world on the topic of learning how to train in Western Boxing.  This website has come along way and the creator should be proud.  He covers a variety of topics in boxing from training, lifestyle of a boxer, techniques, nutrition, politics of boxing, etc.  It's that good!  One of the articles I enjoy is how he got involved in boxing and how he fell in love with the sweet science.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a boxer, I prefer Muay Thai and the similar fighting styles.  In my opinion Muay Thai or a similar style will always beat Western Boxing (style vs. style), but I have to tell you when I first put on hand wraps, boxing gloves, mouth guard, headgear, groin protector and stepped into the ring and sparred under the Marquis of Queensbury rules I knew this was making me experience the brutality of hand to hand combat.  I can understand why so many people become humbled after training in boxing.  I really respect Western Boxers and admire humble professional boxers.

I do believe it's important to continue teaching Boxing at U.S. Military Academies (Annapolis, Colorado Springs, and West Point).  There has been controversy on requiring cadets to take it, but I believe it would be a big mistake to stop teaching Boxing because it truly makes a person feel the emotions of being in a hand to hand combat situation/fighting.  It also is a great workout (I believe Muay Thai is a better workout, I know, I'm still bringing up Muay Thai, but give me a break ;)).

Western Boxing is truly not play fighting, it's not for everybody to fight in the ring, and it surly should not be criticized by anyone for it's lack of techniques.  Hell, the Jab, Cross, Hook, Uppercut, Overhand, and Shovel Hook are practiced over and over and perfected by boxers which make more than enough in techniques to be deadly (Bruce Lee himself said he didn't fear the man who knew 10,000 techniques, but feared the man who practiced one technique 10,000 times).
