Hello Everyone,
I've already mentioned in a blog post that Jerry Lee Peterson (the founder of SCARS or Special Combat Aggressive Reactionary Systems) is a master in Kung Fu San Soo. He is a 1st generation master because I've been told he got it from Jimmy H. Woo. Anyway, here are some videos of him speaking about BJJ/groundfighting, mindset, etc.
Anyway, my opinion is that he is a GREAT SALESMAN! He really could sell a pair of shoes to a man with no feet. One aspect of the martial arts community is the Reality Based Self-Defense (RBSD) courses/systems. In my opinion, SCARS is one of them. These RBSD's try to make themselves more for the non-martial artist, non-fighter, or military/law enforcement person who doesn't have time to study martial arts and wants a quick fix.
Anyway, in my opinion, Jerry Peterson does a really good job of selling his SCARS program. The words he uses to sound fancy and sophisticated can no doubt work well to get people to buy his program. Here is the thing: it's still kung fu san soo. Another thing. If SCARS is so superior as he claims it is strictly for real life combat how come we don't hear or see any stories of SCARS in action kicking ass and saving lives???
If I was Jerry Peterson I would feel very blessed to not have been called out by an expert of one of the fighting styles recommended on this blog. Whether it's a BJJ black belt or a Muay Thai veteran fighter or a Division 1 College Wrestler or a professional Boxer or Dutch Kickboxer or a Sanda champion, etc.
It's so easy to use fancy grammar, sales tactics, wear tactical clothing and talk like you're the only person who knows the secret to fighting. Guess what? It's what you do that matters! Not what you say or think or wear. Get in the ring or cage and I promise you'll get humbled fast.
Guys that wear tactical clothing like 5-11, Nine-Line, etc. AND try to act all badass because they learned a modern combatives program that consisted of BJJ and Muay Thai techniques are annoying douche bags too.
San Soo had a chance to prove itself in combat and that was in UFC when there weren't any rounds, very very very few rules, and a controlled environment where people weren't going to bring a knife or gun into the octagon. San Soo also emphasizes an offensive mindset like Jerry Peterson teaches in SCARS. Guess what? It still hasn't helped San Soo guys in fights that have been documented and recorded for people to view.
